Lincoln is my home, and after serving our city for sixteen years on the City Council, I care deeply about our future. Lately, I have become concerned about the direction we are heading. Over the past four years, limited financial planning has led to a structural deficit, all while our utility costs have risen substantially. We need to get back on track, and that is why I am running. I want to bring balanced, sensible planning back to Lincoln. We must start with a full review of our general plan to bring our land use and economic goals back into alignment. We are also facing a proposed one percent sales tax that would make ours the highest in the county, hurting our ability to attract new retail and commercial opportunities. I am ready to use my experience to bring sound planning back to our community.
Keeping our community safe is a fundamental duty, but we must be smart about how we achieve it. If you elect me, I will focus on the efficient delivery of our public safety services. We need strong, dependable emergency services, but we must balance that with our budget. That is why I will investigate implementing a medical transport ambulance service, which can be a major revenue source if done correctly. We also need to address the fact that seventy to eighty percent of our fire department calls are medical. By tailoring our training and equipment to meet this reality, we can serve our community much more efficiently. My goal is to ensure we get the absolute best protection possible while remaining responsible stewards of our shared resources. I am ready to do this work for you.
As we look to the future of our community, we have to talk about the everyday essentials that keep our homes running. We all know there is a real cost to providing vital services like water, sewer, and solid waste disposal. My goal is to make these services more affordable and efficient for everyone. To do this, I will work regionally to build partnerships that allow us to scale our services more economically. By working together across our region, we can find smarter, more efficient ways to manage these systems and keep your bills down. It is about practical, common-sense solutions that protect your hard-earned money while securing the reliable services we all rely on every day.
Right now, our city is facing a serious challenge: a three-million-dollar structural deficit. We simply cannot allow our community to fail financially. That is why I am running for office. I want to bring an experienced, steady voice to the table to help us set the right course for our future. We need to roll up our sleeves and bring our budget back into balance. When it comes to our shared financial security, failing to act is simply not an option. But as we address this challenge, we must be thoughtful, careful, and deliberate about the decisions we make. I am ready to do the hard work to protect our community's financial future and ensure we stay on solid ground.
